Google just annouced
the Open Handset Alliance to create an open platform for cell phones.
This new operating system should include Google Applications (GMail, YouTube ...)
But how to browse those large pages, Google Maps for example, using such a small screen !?A possible solution for future cell phones could be to add a motion sensor (as already available in the optical mouses) to trigger the scrolling of the page (in the opposite way !!)

With this feature, we could get the feeling that we move a kind of magnifying glass over a virtual unlimited document.
What do you think of it ?Furthermore, if we add a sensor in a 3rd dimension (depth), we can also control the zooming factor.

Excellent idea! And it should be very cheap to implement using optical mouse technology on a surface. The motion sensing tech would let it be used in mid-air as you envision. Perhaps the iPhone hardware would support this already with a good software implementation!
That could be a good idea but move the phone to scroll up and down requires room around the user.
As many of the customers of smartphones and PDAs are using these for personnal use (see on subway), I assume they prefer to scroll using finger or button instead of moving the phone (and risk to hurt the neighbour on subway with it, uhh)
